چکیده

Solitary bees provide essential pollination services for many arable crops, but are prone to global decline. Agricultural intensification, which is connected with pesticide usage, among major threats and, thus, the food security and ecosystem stability. As it may not be possible cease usage currently because of growing demand food, crucial understand toxicities better protection pollinator populations. The majority studies have focused on social bees, those solitary studied effects adult exposure, whereas these also likely exposed as larvae via consumption contaminated pollen. Here, three commonly used insecticide-based plant products development bee, Osmia bicornis (red mason bee), were by exposing insecticide-contaminated multifloral tested insecticides were: Dursban480EC, containing organophosphate chlorpyrifos (CHP), Sherpa100EC, pyrethroid cypermethrin (CYP), Mospilan20SP neonicotinoid acetamiprid (ACT). When compared control fed uncontaminated-pollen, both CHP CYP significantly reduced O. larval survival their body mass at all concentrations. In contrast, ACT did affect either or mass, length stage cocoon formation was shortened controls. None affected cocooned individuals. However, least 80% individuals any died before reaching stage, 43% controls emerged successfully after overwintering. Although no clear monotonic dose-response relationships found, our study showed that some insecticide formulations even concentrations actually found in pollen field, indicating an urgent need revising current recommendations.

Forewing structure of the solitary bee Osmia bicornis developing on heavy metal pollution gradient

Wild bees in natural conditions can develop under various environmental stressors. Heavy metal pollution of the environment is one of the most widely studied stressors in insects, yet its effect is poorly described in bees. We have measured how pollution of the environment along a zinc, cadmium and lead contamination gradient in Poland affects bee development, using red mason bees (Osmia bicorn...

Larval exposure to field-realistic concentrations of clothianidin has no effect on development rate, over-winter survival or adult metabolic rate in a solitary bee, Osmia bicornis

There is widespread concern regarding the effects of agro-chemical exposure on bee health, of which neonicotinoids, systemic insecticides detected in the pollen and nectar of both crops and wildflowers, have been the most strongly debated. The majority of studies examining the effect of neonicotinoids on bees have focussed on social species, namely honey bees and bumble bees. However, most bee ...

The Role of Vibrations in Population Divergence in the Red Mason Bee, Osmia bicornis

Differences in female preference for certain male characteristics can be a driving force for population divergence and speciation [1-4]. During precopulation, females of the red mason bee, Osmia bicornis, choose suitable males based on, among other criteria, their thoracic vibrations [5]. These vibrations are thought to be a signal of a male's fitness with females choosing the strongest males t...
